Courtney Gustafson

Courtney (Gus) Gustafson received the Quaker State Scholarship and attended Lock Haven State College. He graduated in 1964 with a degree in Biology. While in college he met Sonia Mussleman from Lock Haven and married her on May 29, 1965. They have two children --- Cyndi born in 1968 and Kevin born in 1970.

Gus taught school briefly in Port Allegany in the fall of 1964 and then joined the Pennsylvania Fish Commission as a Research Biologist in January of 1965. He worked at the Benner Springs Fish Research Station near Bellefonte, PA. In 1970 he was promoted to Chief of the Research Section. In 1977 he left the fish commission to join the staff of Mt. Parnell Fisheries, Inc. as a Fisheries Research Biologist. Mt. Parnell is a commercial goldfish hatchery located near Mercersburg, PA comprised of 400 acres of ponds producing goldfish for a worldwide market. Gus continues to work at Mt. Parnell and he and Sonia live in Fort Loudon. Sonia has worked for the Pennsylvania Welfare department for more than 20 years.

Gus's daughter Cyndi married Fred Walker from Lock Haven and currently lives in Lock Haven. They have one daughter, 6-year-old Shelbe. Cyndi is employed by the City of Lock Haven in the Code and Zoning Office.

His son Kevin married Megan Geesey from Lititz, PA. They have three sons --- Tyler (5), Cody (4), and Nick (1). Kevin is a business teacher at James Buchanan High School and is the head football coach.

Gus continues to return to Smethport to hunt and fish with his brother Ralph. He also has three sisters --- Dorothy Thompson of Hernando, FL, Carolyn Daugherty of Smethport and Nancy Dickinson of Aiken.
