Following high school, I attended and graduated from Jamestown Business College in Jamestown, NY. I began my working career at a law firm in Bradford. I married, had three terrific sons, and divorced. During that time, I began working at the Hamlin Bank in Smethport where I enjoyed 7 years of employment. I began my current career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in January, 1990, when I accepted a position at the Federal Correctional Institution at McKean County. I started as a Secretary in the Education Department. After doing that for nearly two years, I applied for a position in the Inmate Systems Management Department. It was at FCI McKean that I met my current husband, Roy M. Lathrop.

After 7 years at FCI McKean, we moved to Georgia and began working at FCI Estill, in Estill, SC. Roy is a Paralegal for the Bureau. I received a few promotions while at FCI Estill and am now the Assistant Inmate Systems Manager.

Following 6 years of service at Estill, we transferred to FCI Edgefield in Edgefield, SC. Roy is still a Paralegal, and I am still the Assistant Inmate Systems Manager. I supervise 12 staff members who are responsible for processing all inmate records, movement, and mail. During that time, Roy and I added two beautiful daughters to our family.

If you are keeping score - that is five children: Thomas (TJ) is 20 and currently serving in Kosovo. Ross is 18 and trying to figure out what he is going to do. Pete is 16 and enjoys music and sports. Kari-Ann is 8. She is very bright and a joy to be around. Taylor is 5. She is also very bright and brings joy to our daily routine. We currently live in Waynesboro, GA, which is approximately 30 miles south of Augusta, GA.

I think of my classmates often and look forward to the next reunion. I would love to hear from you. I am leaving my work email as a contact since it stays the same even if we move again. It is slathrop@bop.gov. Don't be a stranger! GO HUBBERS!!!!
