After graduation, I attended Gannon University and graduated in 1990. Not ready for the real world, I went to University of Pittsburgh main campus for my master's degree. After finishing up at Pitt, I decided I wanted to be a teacher, after swearing up and down that I would never be one, since my parents Dan and Marg Marshall spent 30+ years in education. (Many of you may remember my mom was an elementary school teacher for Smethport Area School District and my dad taught many students to drive as the Driver's Ed. teacher.)

I guess I was destined or doomed for education. While getting my teaching certification in Spanish in at St. Bonaventure, I did some substitute teaching and my student teaching at SHS. At this point, it was time to get a real job. I was tired of snow and wanted to live somewhere a little warmer so I ended teaching high school Spanish in Greenwood, SC while coaching track and doing homebound instruction.

While home in Smethport one summer, I started dating my husband, Lee Shinaberger, a graduate of Bradford High School. Lee and I married on June 20, 1997. One month after being married, Lee was laid off, and we moved to Myrtle Beach, SC. For the last eight years, I've been at Coastal Carolina University. I'm the Director of Educational Technology, and I teach part-time which I really enjoy. I'm currently working on my Ph.D. in Instructional Design and passed my comprehensive exams this past summer.

Living at the beach is fun, but I do get homesick for the beautiful fall season in Smethport. Lee and I are surrounded by great friends and visit and are visited by family often. No kids yet, but we do have a great nephew, Tyler. Good excuse to see my sister, Katra, and brother-in-law, Hank. Both of them are SAHS Class of 1993.

I’d love to hear from any other Hubbers. My email is jshinabe@sc.rr.com
