The Class of 1969 held its 40th Class Reunion on Friday and Saturday August 28, 29, 2009 at Lake's Camp on Prospect Hill near Smethport.
Welcoming activities began on a rainy Friday evening, with a corn and hot dog roast, followed by the main festivities on a clear sunny Saturday beginning at 4:00 PM.
Of the 120 members of the graduating class, total attendance was 56 persons, including 33 class members, 3 teachers, and 20 spouses, significant others, and family members. Teachers attending were Lance Lewis, and Clarence and Marlene Strabel. Class members Marilyn Green Bailey, Lon Hovis, Tom Huntoon and Mike Weimer attended the reunion, and were unable to be present at the appointed hour of the Class Photograph.
Mary Griffin Fannin could not attend the reunion. However, she sent the reunion committee a fantastic (and much appreciated) collage of class memory photos, ranging from kindergarten through high school graduation. During the reunion activities 12 deceased classmates were remembered and honored during solemn ceremonies. The reunion was a "bring a dish to pass event", and substantial delicious food and beverage was available for all to enjoy. Mark Vossler was the enthusiastic Master of Ceremonies. Paul Costa (SAHS '72 ) provided his skills as the Class Photographer. Dolly Costa's husband Sam generously provided a large pavilion tent that served as a much appreciated picnic table shelter from rain and sun.
There was a 50/50 raffle and multiple ticket raffles of many prizes donated by classmates. Phil Anderson was the winner of the 50/50, and Bill Rothermel was the prize winner of what many thought (judging by the number of tickets) was the most coveted prize--a 1.75 liter bottle of Jack Daniels.
Bob Berne and Dolly Costa composed 40th reunion memento books containing classmates most recent known addresses. These books were provided to all in attendance, with many of these books also being ordered by classmates who could not attend the reunion.
The reunion organizing committee of Bob Berne, Dolly Galloway Costa, Becky Gustafson Smith, Mark and Debra Barrett Vossler, and Sue Raszmann Work received well-deserved recognition for their efforts, along with a few other class members and spouses.
There are four members of the Class of 1969 who cannot be located: Lawrence Hall, Bernice Hamilton, and Eileen Shellito Yakouch. Should anyone have contact details for any of these persons, please email the information to Jack Pierotti at jwpierotti@verizon.net.
